Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Finding a therapist and seeking help can feel daunting, overwhelming, and bring up many questions. I am happy to provide clarity on what to expect and how I may support your healing journey.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy means compassionately asking “what happened to you?”, not pathologizing or asking “what’s wrong with you?”. As a trauma-informed therapist, I believe it’s imperative to recognize the impact of trauma within a person's life, understand the symptoms of trauma in clients, and strive to create a sense of safety in every encounter of my practice to resist retraumatizing a survivor. I have training in evidence-based, trauma-informed modalities that can help you reduce PTSD symptoms and reconnect with yourself.

Who can benefit from your services?

I specialize in therapy for clients who are feeling stuck after a traumatic experience, recovering from an abusive relationship, or are stuck in survival mode. I also work with clients who are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety and stress, or needing support navigating a major life change (such as becoming a new parent, moving, marriage or divorce, etc). Concerns I can help with include: anxiety, coping skills and stress management, depression, domestic abuse, grief and loss, intimate partner violence, self esteem, sexual abuse, teen dating violence, trauma, PTSD, and women's issues.

What can I expect during the first session with you?

In our first session, we’ll discuss what to expect in counseling, policies, and limits of confidentiality. Then we’ll explore your background, talk about your therapy goals and what you’re hoping to change, and I will gather some important history so I know how to best help and support you. You do not have to share more than you’re comfortable with, and we will go at your pace and what’s comfortable for you.
